What is conflict coaching all about?
Conflict coaching is a fairly new type of alternative dispute resolution and is a desired addition to existing forms of dispute resolution such as mediation.
Conflict coaching is the partnering of a conflict resolution professional with a client in a one-on-one process that integrates coaching and conflict management principles. The purpose of conflict coaching is gaining awareness of one’s conflict behavioral patterns, skills and competencies. With increased awareness and understanding the client is able to embrace a new perspective, rebuild damaged relationships and be a more constructive force in any type of disagreement by transforming interpersonal conflicts into conversations.
The process of conflict coaching may happen in person, by phone, email or over the internet. Although conflict coaching is a one on one process, due to my mediation experience I can also work with multiple parties, if the need arises. See also my frequently asked questions (faq) for more information on the process of conflict coaching and the differences with other disciplines.
As a trained coach, I follow the Standards of the International Coach Federation (ICF) which are based on the belief that every client is creative, resourceful and whole. I help you discover and clarify what you want to accomplish in our time together, encourage self-discovery, create different perspectives and ah-ha moments, ask you about your ideas on solutions and strategies and offer you measurable results.
I create a safe space for you to explore the issue as in depth as you want to go and reflect on what you have learned.
Transformation is often the result of coaching.

Pre-mediation Coaching
- If you are a mediator looking to preserve your neutrality by engaging a trained partner to coach one or both of your clients in preparation for an upcoming mediation, I would love to partner with you!
- If you are a man or woman in the middle of a divorce, wanting to come through the process in a respectful and constructive way, and wanting expert help to prepare for the mediation, call me.
- If you are a party in community mediation and want to prepare your opening statement and work on your negotiation skills, I am just a phone call away.
These are just a few examples of situations I can help you with.
